A Rare Pair of Regency Cut-Brass & Rosewood Side Chairs (c. 1820) - Celebrating 200 Years of Craftsmanship

An exceptional, matching pair of English Regency period brass-inlaid dining or accent chairs, dating to c. 1815–1825. Having remarkably survived for two centuries, these chairs stand as a testament to the exquisite cabinetmaking standards of the Georgian era, combining classical Grecian influence with intricate metalwork.

Top Tablet Rail:
Deeply curved overhanging rail in rich rosewood, featuring delicate, hand-cut Boulle-style brass marquetry depicting scrolling acanthus leaves and a central fleur-de-lis, flanked by reeded roll terminals.

Mid-Rail Detail:
The central tablet displays an inlaid brass anthemion (honeysuckle/palmette) motif - a classic Greco-Roman emblem favored during the Regency revival - framed within fine brass stringing.

Architectural Supports:
The back uprights feature distinct rope-twist (spiral-turned) hand-carved sections, punctuated by square corner blocks inset with brass star-burst patera medallions.

Swept Sabre Legs:
Gracefully curved front and rear legs echoing the ancient Greek klismos silhouette, offering an elegant profile from any angle.

Dual-Seating Versatility:
Fitted with their original-style hand-woven cane seats in sound structural condition, allowing them to be displayed either in their airy, light cane form or styled with the included drop-in upholstered pads.

Workshop Marks & Historical Significance

The frame edges adjacent to the cane bed feature crisp, chisel-stamped Roman numeral batch marks (⁠VI⁠ and ⁠IX⁠). Entering their third century, these marks offer a fascinating glimpse into 19th-century workshop practice: joiners stamped individual components to ensure hand-fitted precision across a large, bespoke commission of matching chairs.
