Four original Coalesse SW_1 lounge chairs by Steelcase, designed by Scott Wilson.

These are beautiful, premium designer chairs with a really distinctive low, wide profile, polished aluminium swivel base and a combination of taupe upholstery, cream mesh and burnt orange seat.

They have a lovely mid-century modern feel, particularly through the polished aluminium base and sculptural shape. We had them in our own design studio alongside original Eames chairs and they looked brilliant together.

These were very expensive chairs when purchased new ($1500 - $1800 each) and are increasingly difficult to find second hand, particularly as a matching set of four. When SW_1 chairs do come up through online dealers and auctions, comparable examples are often listed in the region of €500–€600 each. We’ve priced ours reasonably at €350 each as we were lucky enough to buy them well ourselves on the second-hand market and are happy to pass that on.

All four are in excellent overall condition and have been very well looked after. There is some slight wear/distressing to sections of the cream mesh, as photographed. It’s largely cosmetic and, if anything, gives them a little more character. The upholstery, cushions, frames and polished bases are all in excellent condition.

We’re only selling them because we’ve recently moved office and unfortunately no longer have the space for them.
