A gorgeous piece of collectible porcelain from the Sargadelos pottery factory in Spain. The Tower of Hércules is the oldest existing lighthouse, dating back to ancient Roman times. It was previously known as the Farum Brigantium (farm comes from the Greek word Pharos), or
Lighthouse of Alexandria. A great piece of Galician art!
Built in the 1st century, the lighthouse stands 55 metres (180 ft) tall, and overlooks the North Atlantic Coast of Spain.
The manufacturer, Sargadelos, dates back to 1806, when the Marquis of Sargadelos founded the porcelain factory in the town which bears his name.
Sargadelos has become a premium porcelain manufacturer now with over 200 years of history in Galicia, northwestern Spain. Known for its clear blue color known as "Sargadelos Blue" and original designs influenced by motifs from traditional Galician culture, its main feature is the warmth of its hand-painted products. It is loved by the Spanish royal family and embassies and is internationally recognized. Founded as a steelworks in the 18th century, the company transitioned to a full-scale porcelain manufacturer in the early 19th century as the area was rich in kaolin. People are fascinated by the powerful forms and beautiful colors influenced by Celtic culture!
