Vintage Ernestine Salerno Italy Red Charger Plate 30cm 1950s MCM Ceramic Platter

Striking large vintage Ernestine ceramic charger plate from Salerno, Italy, dating most likely to the late 1950s and embodying pure Mid-Century Modern Italian design.

Finished in a vibrant glossy ruby red glaze with dramatic fluted sunburst shaping, this is an exceptionally sculptural decorative piece with enormous visual impact. Measuring just over 30cm at its widest point, it works beautifully displayed on a stand, layered into a tablescape, or styled as a statement centrepiece.

Original Ernestine Salerno / Italy label still intact to the reverse.

Ernestine ceramics were produced in post-war Salerno during the golden era of Italian decorative arts, when bold colours, glamorous forms and highly stylised ceramics from southern Italy became especially sought after internationally. The brand is believed to have operated primarily from the late 1940s through the 1960s, and surviving labelled examples are increasingly collected today for their distinctive Mid-Century Italian aesthetic.

This particular piece feels especially evocative of late 1950s Italian modernism with its atomic-era fluting and lacquer-like saturated red glaze.
