Vintage Art Deco Ceramic Fountain Pen Holder by Veritable Gres Flamme Grand Feu which Translates as genuine high-fire flamed sandstone, Made in France

I’m still working on downsizing my collectables, and have moved onto some random items that don’t fit neatly into any of my collections and thus are surplus to my current requirements.

For sale here is a Vintage Art Deco Ceramic Fountain Pen Holder by Véritable Grès Flammé Grand Feu which Translates as “genuine high-fire flamed sandstone”, Made in France

This small piece of French ceramic caught my eye in market some years ago, but not having a fountain pen to put in it, it just stands empty. Although I have used it as a posy vase on occasion!

Although I failed to find out anything about this particular factory, I did find out a bit about High Fired Flamed Sandstone (translated from French):

“High-fired sandstone was developed by the Fourmaintraux-Delassus factory (Belle Croix site) in the 1920s and 30s, the production of high-fire stoneware is used for both architectural ceramics and decorative objects. Resistant to all conditions, and particularly to bad weather because it is frost-resistant, high-fire sandstone is particularly suitable for decorating facades. The town of Desvres has some fine examples that are complemented by the museum's collections. In keeping with the Art Deco style, served by a specific and characteristic palette, the cabochons, panels and tiles accompany compositions signed by the artist Jean Louwerse and astonishing crystallization vases.”

This small compact Art Deco Pen Holder is in Excellent vintage condition considering it dates to the 1930’s/1940’s. There are no chips or cracks, or age-related crazing. It still has the original Silver Label.

The pen holder stands 3.75 inches/ 9.5 cm tall and measures 3.55 inches/ 9 cm in width.

A lovely unusual gift for the collector of Art Deco Ceramics or unusual French Ceramics.

A nice small compact piece for the collector with not much space left!!!
