Beautiful, authentic piece of early American mid-century studio art pottery by ceramicist Roger Butler, handcrafted in 1976 just prior to the official founding of Feather River Pottery.
This hand-thrown stoneware vessel features a striking, dark iron-spotted high-gloss brown/black glaze. The shoulder is accented with a heavily textured, bubbling metallic-flecked crust band that creates a beautiful contrast. The top flares out into a distinctive wide, flat saucer-shaped rim/lip.
The unglazed foot ring is hand-signed by the artist and clearly incised with the creation year "76". Perfect addition for collectors of West Coast studio ceramics or brutalist mid-century decor.
