Two Fabulous Items, Hand-Potted by the Popular and Collectable Irish Potter Suzanne May, Circa 1990's, Priced Individually

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

I’ve quite a few eclectic pieces which will be going as they are not really part of my main collections but were just items that I was attracted to. They still bring me joy but something needs to go!!!

For Sale here is a Two Fabulous Items, Hand-Potted by the Popular and Collectable Irish Potter Suzanne May, Circa 1990’s, Priced Individually

She is a graduate of NCAD where she studied 3-D design with a specialization in Ceramics. She set up Suzanne May Ceramics in 1991, which operated for 11 years. Since then, she has been involved in various design consulting and mentoring roles. Her work is very popular and collectable, and because she only operated for just over 10 years, there is a limited supply of her beautiful pieces.

The first item is a lovely single candlestick, taller than the pair I have listed separately. It’s glazed in shades of white and blue in a lovely eggshell-finish glaze and decorated in a semi-abstract floral motifs in blue with yellow/orange highlights. It stands just over 5 inches/13cm tall. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks crazing or pattern loss, as good as the day it was first hand-potted! It has the impressed Suzanne May marks on the base and a sticker on the side (although this should probably be removed, as it’s a bit raggy). This candlestick is €20


The second item is a lovely round bowl with a removable flower frog top, or a pomander for potpourri, I have used it for both flowers and potpourri. This is a very unusual and rare item. It’s also glazed in shades of white and blue in a lovely eggshell-finish glaze and decorated in a semi-abstract floral motifs in blue with yellow/orange highlights. It stands roughly 4 inches/10cm tall. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks crazing or pattern loss, as good as the day it was first hand-potted! It has the impressed Suzanne May marks on the base. This Flower Frog Bowl is €30

Because these pieces are hand-potted, there are subtle differences in the shape and decoration of the pieces, making them extra special.


A great chance to purchase pieces of Irish designed and made pottery, from a pottery no longer in production. Her limited work is only going to get more rare and difficult to find, so now is your chance to own a small piece of late 20th Century design history.
