Two Fabulous and Collectable Vintage Achill Pottery Pieces, Priced Individually Two Fabulous and Collectable Vintage Achill Pottery Pieces, Priced Individually Ceramics

I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.

I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done and reducing the amount of items going into storage.

For sale here are Two Fabulous and Collectable Vintage Achill Pottery Pieces, Priced Individually,

Achill Island Pottery was opened in 1960 in Keel on Achill Island by Joseph and Mary Colohan, whose inspiration came from working at a craft pottery centre in Vallauris (Southern France). Crucially, they had some timely advice from Pablo Picasso who was also working there at the time.

After Joe and Mary passed away, the business went to their son, Fergil. Today, Fergil and his wife Geraldine continue to run the Achill Pottery on a seasonal basis.

For sale is a lovely Indigo Blue Posy Vase with a subtle incised celtic pattern. This particular vase shape was produced in a range of colourways, most using a quite muted and natural colour palette, but this one is in a stunning bright indigo blue with bright green inclusions, quite reminiscent of Vallauris and also Aldo Londi/Bitossi, so I think this piece dates to the earlier era of Achill Pottery.
The vase is in excellent vintage condition with no chips cracks or crazing. It measures about 4.25 inches/11cm tall. The underside has an impressed Achill mark.

The other item is a boat (currach?) on waves in a lovely green glaze. I don’t know what the function of the piece is, but it’s handy for keys, or other small items. Or perhaps it’s just a decorative item with no particular function.
It is also in excellent vintage condition with no chips cracks or crazing. It measures about 8.5 inches/21.5cm in length and stands 2 inches/5cm tall at the highest point. The underside has an impressed Achill mark.

Each item is priced at €22 each, or the two items for €40. Postage would be €7 for either or both together, and can fit other items in the same package, with arrangement.

A chance to own a couple of lovely pieces of Irish Studio Pottery from the hands of Joseph and Mary Colohan, all the way from Achill.
Rare enough pieces, most especially in this colourway.
