This mug may have been issued in 1993 to commemorate their 100th anniversary or in 1990 to commemorate 25 years of The Girl's Brigade, formed in 1965 from the amalgamation of three sister orgamnisations. This mug was made by Carrigdhoun Co Op pottery in Carrigaline, County Cork.
The Girl’s Life Brigade (GLB) was first established in Ireland in 1893 and in 1902 the first GLB was set up in England by the National Sunday Schools Union (NSSU). A similar organisation was set up in Scotland in 1900 called The Girl’s Guildry. They operated on the scouting model as Christian organisations for young women and in 1965 all three were amalgamated to form the 'Girl’s Brigade'. Today, the Girls Brigade is an international and interdenominational Christian youth organisation for girls aged up to 18 years. Members aged over 18 can join as 'associates'.
