Stunning and Very Rare Vintage Mid-Century Italian Bird-Shaped Ceramic Vinegar Bottle by Domenico Pucci Ceramiche, Umbertide, Italy, Circa 1950s

I’m still working on downsizing my collectables, and have moved onto some random items that don’t fit neatly into any of my collections and thus are surplus to my current requirements as we are moving house shortly.

For sale here, is a Stunning and Very Rare Vintage Mid-Century Italian Bird-Shaped Ceramic Vinegar Bottle by Domenico Pucci Ceramiche, Umbertide, Italy, Circa 1950’s

This is such a cute and special little piece from this lesser known Italian pottery founded by Domenico Pucci in Umbertide, which only ran from 1947 until 1962.

A wonderful design, so typical of Domenico Pucci's ethos of making whimsical but practical functional pieces with an abstract modern look. The simple beautifully curved bird jug form is elevated by its Picasso-esque hand-painted design, very mid-century Italian in design.
Marked 'vinegar' on the front, perhaps there was originally a matching ‘oil’ bottle, but I only ever had this one.

It is very tactile, a lovely piece to hold in the hand, and perfectly useable as a vinegar bottle, as the stopper is still intact.

The bottle is in very good useable condition considering it is about 70 years old. No chips cracks or crazing, the only thing to mention is a tiny missing bit of glaze from the very tip of the beak, as photographed.
It has a perfectly fitting cork stopper, but I don’t know if this is the original one, as the only example of this vinegar bottle that I can find online (sold for about €45) didn’t have a stopper at all. It has the handpainted Pucci Italy mark underneath.
It stands 5 inches/ 13 cm tall.

This is a fantastic rare find and would make any collector of Italian Mid-Century Ceramics very happy for Christmas.

Would make a fantastic addition to any collection of Italian, European or art pottery, and would complement any retro, vintage, 50s, midcentury, kitsch or contemporary interior.
