For sale is a large size Royal Doulton toby jug (D6062) depicting 'Sir John Falstaff', a fictional character who appears in three of William Shakespeare's plays. This model of toby jug was in production from 1939 through to 1991 but the backstamp indicates this is an earlier piece.

All Royal Doulton jugs are hand-made at every stage of the process from moulding to hand-painting and firing, each one going through three different firing stages in the kiln.

DESCRIPTION:
Size: about 8 1/2" height (216mm).
Finish: hand-painted in various colours.
Material(s): slip-cast white earthenware.
Imprint: Royal Doulton backprint (see photos). There is also a mould number 8328 and a painter's ID mark '3'.
Weight (excluding transit packaging): about 825g
Approximate age: 1940's to 1950's.

CONDITION:
Excellent clean condition. No damage.

Royal Doulton at Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent were prolific producers of high-quality slip-cast character and toby jugs that proved very popular in their day and are avidily collected. Royal Doulton produced their first character jugs from the 1930's and are still being produced today.
