Rare antique Bohemian majolica vase

Rare antique Bohemian majolica vase Rare antique Bohemian majolica vase Ceramics

A stylish antique 19th century Bohemian majolica vases elaborately decorated by Gerbing & Stephan from Austria/Bohemia. This urn shaped vase is superbly decorated, a design reminiscent of tile work, forming together a pattern in tones of brown, cream and green. Impressed at the bottom with the Gerbing and Stephan mark with the model number. Incredible workmanship and a great example of bohemian majolica pottery work. Highly sought after and collectable.

Gerbing had created with a friend a small ceramic business in 1829. They focused on decorative art pottery using terracotta and majolica. They received awards, and their business grew and they expanded production. In 1848 Gerbing died, leaving his shares to his wife who faced great difficulties. In 1859 Julius Stephan approached her with a business proposition. He married her daughter and with her son Friedrich renamed and rebuilt the business. I was called Gerbing and Stephan, and existed from 1861 to 1903.

No cracks or repairs. There are couple of small chips on one handle.
