Rare Amphora Art Deco Ring Vase. Turn-Teplitz Czechoslovakia. Form 3965

Exceptional and highly unusual Amphora Art Deco pottery vase, produced by Amphorawerke Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel in the celebrated Turn-Teplitz ceramic district of Czechoslovakia.

Dating to the interwar Art Deco period, circa 1920s–30s, this is a particularly striking sculptural form, standing approximately 30 cm high.

Rather than a conventional vase shape, the piece is constructed from four interconnected hollow loops rising into multiple spouts, creating a dramatic architectural form that looks superb from every angle.

The surface has a wonderfully distinctive period decoration: a mottled deep blue and earthy ground with hand-applied stylised leaves/fruit in ochre, rust, black and vivid green. The combination of the sculptural silhouette and decoration makes this a particularly impressive display piece.

Most importantly, the underside retains its original blue oval factory mark reading “Made in Czecho-Slovakia / AMPHORA”, together with the impressed form number 3965.

The Amphora mark is associated with Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel of Turn-Teplitz, one of the best-known names in Bohemian art pottery and particularly collected for its innovative Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramics.
