Pair of Antique Victorian Black Glass Barrel Jars (c. 1850s)

A rare, matching pair of mid-to-late 19th-century Victorian barrel-shaped utility jars. These pieces feature a heavy, thick-walled design molded with traditional barrel hoops and display exceptional historical makers' marks.

Key Features & Authentication:
True Antique "Black Glass": Appears opaque jet black in normal light, but shows a beautiful, deep olive-amber/green translucency when held up to a strong direct light source.

3-Piece Mold Seams: Features the authentic horizontal mold seam around the center where the mid-19th-century three-piece iron mold halves met during the blowing process.

Snapped Pontil Bases: The underside of both barrels features a prominent, unground, snapped pontil scar from the glassblower's rod, securely dating these pieces between the 1840s and 1870s.

Important Note: One of the barrels has a distinct, notable chip on the outer bottom edge/rim of the base (clearly shown in the close-up base photos). It does not affect the stability of the jar when sitting flat on a table, but it is present.

The second barrel is free of chips. Both items retain a beautiful glossy surface sheen with typical antique internal air bubbles, slight shape asymmetry, and light bottom shelf-wear expected of utility glass over 150 years old.
