For sale is a nice quality ceramic mug produced for the BLACKROCK HOSPICE and OUR LADY'S HOSPICE of Harolds Cross in support of their Coffee Morning fund-raising events. This mug is screen printed and has an overall dark-blue glaze on both its inside and outside.Its condition is excellent and appears to have been unused.
The COFFEE MORNING is an annual fund-raising event organised by the hospices and which started in 1992, the next hospice Coffee Morning is due to be held on the 21st September 2023. The Coffee Morning (10am to 1pm) events are held by volunteers within their local communities and by some businesses throughout Ireland. Coffee Mronings are also supported by Bewleys, who organise the 'Coffee Morning Host Packs' and this mug may have been part of the pack to be sold as part of the fund-rising drive. Since its inception, millions of Euro have been raised through Coffee Morning events for the three Our Lady's Hospices at Harolds Cross, Blackrock and Wicklow.
Our Lady's Hospice at Harolds Cross in Dublin was the first hospice when it was opened by the Congregation of the Religious Sisters of Charity in 1879. The same Congregation also established St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. The Religious Sisters of Charity was founded by Mary Aikenhead (1787-1858) at Harolds Cross in 1815.
