NATWEST (National Westminster Bank) - two Wade pottery piggybanks + 1 free (1980s)
Postage is extra.
.
For sale are two Natwest ceramic piggybanks made by the Wade pottery company, Annabel and her mother, Lady Hilary. The scarce father figure (Sir Nathaniel) is given free as a filler because unfortunately, he is damaged. All three figures have their original Natwest bungs.
Five pottery piggybanks were issued by the Natwest (National Westminster Bank UK) to encourage younger savers to join their new "National Westminster Piggy Bank Account" launched on 5th December 1983. All figures were made by Wade of England and five make up the family set, comprising of the baby (Woody), Woody's sister (Annabel), her brother (Maxwell), the mother (Lady Hilary) and the father (Sir Nathaniel Westminster). A Woody figure was given to each child upon opening the account and as their savings grew, others figures followed:
Woody - upon opening the new account with a minimum balance of £3.
Annabel - when account exceeded £25
Maxwell - exceeding £50
Lady Hilary - exceeding £75
Sir Nathaniel - when account exceeded £100 after a further two years of opening the account.
The figures increase in scarcity from Woody to Sir Nathaniel. The Wade Natwest piggybanks quickly proved very popular and their popularity proved astonishing with Wade working flat out to satisfy demand. Incidently, there was a sixth figure produced by Wade called Cousin Wesley and is rare, as only 5,000 were produced. To earn a figure of Wesley, a children’s bond in which a minimum of £1,000 had to be invested over five years.
