Mid-Century 1950's Kitsch Large Italian Hand-Painted Anti-Pasti Serving Dish
My Covid Clearout Continues again this weekend, and I now have some Italian Mid-Century Ceramics coming up!
For sale here, is a Lovely Mid-Century 1950's Kitsch Large Italian Hand-Painted Anti-Pasti Serving Dish. A stylish and also practical piece, this was quite the stylish gift to bring back from your 1950's/60's holidays to the Amalfi Coast!
It is rectangular in shape with protruding handles and has three rectangular sections for different anti-pasto elements, such as charcuterie, salamis, cheeses, olives, sun-dried tomatoes etc, plus two rows of leaf-patterned, oval indentations suitable for devilled eggs or egg mayonnaise. It is hand-painted with food and drink related themes, including a red wine bottle and wine glass, olives, leaves and fruit such as grapes, pears and lemons.
I use this for canapés, hors-d'œuvres and tapas, in addition to an Anti Pasti selection, depending on the meal I am serving, and when this dish is placed on the table it's always the talking point!
The dish is in very good vintage condition considering it's a mid century piece. The glaze is vibrant and in good order. There are two small chips under the handle on one side but not visible from the top. Apart from that it is as good as the day it was made. It is hand-painted underneath with a little red flower and the number 3619 and an impressed MADE IN ITALY stamp, but I have not been able to identify the maker.
It measures about 16 inches/40cm from handle to handle and 10.5 inches/27cm across the short side, so quite a large piece.
A lovely kitsch but practical item, perfect for the collector of Mid Century ceramics, Italian ceramics, or for any lover of Kitsch!
