Lovely Brown and White "Americana Style House Ironstone, Large Dinner Plate by J&G Meakin, Staffordshire, Circa 1970, Suitable for Use and Display

A possible impending house move has forced me into evaluating all my collections and some items will have to go, in my effort to downsize, including this Lovely Brown and White Dinner Plate in my effort to downsize. I'm making progress but more items need to go!

I have quite the selection of individual decorative plates, which I have collected over the years with the idea of having a mad wall display, but never quite got round to it, and I have too many to display elsewhere.

For sale here is a Lovely Brown and White "Americana” Style House Ironstone, Large Dinner Plate by J&G Meakin, Staffordshire, measuring 10.5 inches/27 cm in diameter.

The Americana series was produced by J&G Meakin in the 1970’s and celebrates all things American and Colonial, with a different scene or motif on each size of plate.

The dinner plate features a central motif with a colonial scene of Mount Vernon, on the Potomac River, with figures socialising in the foreground, and tall ships on the river, surrounded by trees and shrubs.
Around the edge of the plate is a beribboned patriotic motif with an early US flag, bugle, hat, interspaced with a landscape view of mountains, river, trees and a settler’s cabin.
Mount Vernon was the plantation and burial site of George Washington, (along with his wife Martha and 20 other members of the Washington family) who was the American Revolutionary War general and first President of the United States.

An historic/colonial/patriotic style plate which tells as story, and probably produced for the American market.

The plate measures 10.5 inches/ 27 cm in diameter, so a large dinner plate. The plate is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or pattern loss. It does have a slight/small manufacturing flaw on the rim, which is glazed over, as photographed.

Suitable for wall hanging, kitchen dresser display or everyday use. Would be lovely as part of a mix and match brown and white plate display on a wall or dresser.
