Large ceramic vase

A ceramic art vase (studio pottery) with a distinctive, textured body and dripstone glaze. The vase is distinguished by several unique craftsmanship features.

It features vertical, deep grooves (fluting) that create a geometric pattern on the edges, resembling a zigzag or cactus. The upper section tapers to a clearly defined neck with a flared collar.

A striking reactive glaze is used here. The dark blue, almost navy blue glaze flows down from the top, contrasting with the lighter, gray-green or olive background. In places, the natural brownish hue of the fired clay peeks through from underneath.

This type of ceramic is extremely popular among enthusiasts of the Mid-Century Modern style and Scandinavian and German design of the 1960s and 1970s (e.g., popular vases from West German manufacturers and artisan studios in Great Britain and Scandinavia).
