The plate measures approximately 22 cm in diameter and features an exceptionally elaborate pierced lattice / basketweave border, surrounding a central blue-and-white floral design.

The extensive openwork is the most striking feature of the piece. The porcelain has been formed into multiple concentric bands of delicate geometric piercing, producing an almost lace-like effect when viewed against the light.

ABOUT KPM BERLIN

The Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin was established under Frederick the Great in 1763 and became one of Germany’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers.

Frederick gave the manufactory both its royal name and the sceptre emblem, which became KPM’s identifying trademark. KPM confirms that its cobalt-blue sceptre is applied in underglaze blue before glazing and firing.

KPM remains particularly renowned for the quality of its porcelain manufacture and hand craftsmanship.

THE PLATE

This example combines traditional underglaze-blue floral decoration with a highly decorative pierced porcelain border.

The underside carries the characteristic blue KPM sceptre-type factory mark, together with additional blue and impressed production/workshop markings.

The blue-and-white decoration works particularly well with the white openwork and gives the plate a classic Continental porcelain appearance.

CONDITION

Antique condition with age-related wear.

There are several small chips/losses to sections of the extremely delicate pierced outer border, clearly shown in the photographs. The central plate and the vast majority of the intricate reticulated work remain intact.

The condition has been fully reflected in the asking price.

Despite these losses, it remains a very attractive example of antique KPM pierced porcelain and displays beautifully, particularly against a contrasting background where the intricate openwork becomes especially apparent.

Ideal for collectors of KPM Berlin, German porcelain, blue-and-white ceramics, Continental porcelain or antique decorative ceramics.

Reasonable offers considered.

Collection preferred due to the delicate reticulated construction, although carefully packed postage can be discussed.
