Iden Pottery (Rye Sussex) Milk Jug
For sale a vintage Iden Pottery Milk Jug made by Dennis Townsend at Iden Pottery in Rye, Sussex in England. Iden was set up by Dennis Townsend in 1959 when he left the Rye Pottery he moved to larger premises in Rye in 1966, taking over the premises located in Conduit Hill where it operated from until its closure. Iden pottery can be dated by closely looking at the blue oxide backstamp. In 1974 a small notch was cut in the outer circle, and another each following year. If you count the notches you can then see what year it was made by adding subsequent number of notches to 1974. This jug was made in 1974. The Jug is decorated with light and dark brown speckled glazes and a white speckled inside. The jug is 7.5cms in diameter by 8.5cm deep. It is in very condition free from damage chips, cracks or crazing and the Iden Pottery mark is on the base. The unpackaged weight is 268 grams.
