Fantastic Vintage Ceramic Portuguese Majolicaware Rooster Toothpick Holder by Bordallo Pinheiro, Circa 1950s - Kitschtastic!!! Fantastic Vintage Ceramic Portuguese Majolicaware Rooster Toothpick Holder by Bordallo Pinheiro, Circa 1950s - Kitschtastic!!! Ceramics

I am almost at the end of my effort to downsize following the house move, not many items left to list! I’ve quite a few eclectic pieces which will be going as they are not really part of my main collections but were just items that I was attracted to. They still bring me joy, but something needs to go!!!

I’m keeping most of my Portuguese Majolica cabbage-ware, but here is an item I am willing to part with for the right price!

For Sale here is a Vintage Ceramic Portuguese Majolicaware Rooster Toothpick Holder by Bordallo Pinheiro, Circa 1950’s - Kitschtastic!!!

Bordallo Pinheiro is the most famous Portuguese Majolicaware producer and operates in a factory located in Caldas da Rainha, where the company's headquarters are also located.
In 1884 Bordallo began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças in Caldas, revealing pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality, developing azulejos (blue tiles), panels, pots, table centerpieces, vase busts, fountain basins, pitchers, plates, perfume bottles, vases and gigantic animals, etc. The company continues to this day and is famous for all types of majolicaware especially it's green Cabbage-ware and fun animalistic items such as this.

I love these pieces, they are so kitsch and fun, but I just don’t have the space at the moment to keep all that I have.

This toothpick Holder is in the form of a hollow tree-stump with a Rooster or Cockerel standing beside it. The rooster is in full realistic multi-coloured majolica glaze, with the stump and ground being green.

The piece is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks, and the glaze is nice and bright. This is a mid-century example, as it has the older Bordallo Pinheiro Portugal backstamp on the reverse, before the circle was added to the stamp. The piece measures about 5 inches/ 13 cm in diameter and stands just over 5.5 inches/ 14 cm tall.

This Rooster Toothpick holder is rare enough to find for sale online, but when you do they command a high price, see the last couple of photos.

A great conversation piece to have on the dining table or kitchen island, especially in a retro kitsch setting, or among a collection of further majolica and cabbage-ware items.
It comes in very handy when having a buffet or cheese and wine, as it can be used to hold the cocktail sticks.

They can be styled so many different ways, and could be used in a kitsch bathroom setting where it can be a holder for Q-tips!!

A perfect present for the collector of Portuguese Majolica.

I also have a massive Majolica Fruit Topiary Tower by Secla, Portugal, and a bowl of loose fruit by Bordallo Pinheiro, for sale which you can see in some of the photos. You will see them in some of my other ads.
