Fabulous Vintage Retro Kitsch Large SylvaC Vase from the Pebbles Range produced in the 60s and 70s, Shape Number 3358 Fabulous Vintage Retro Kitsch Large SylvaC Vase from the Pebbles Range produced in the 60s and 70s, Shape Number 3358 Ceramics

This is a very attractive vintage SylvaC flower vase from the ‘Pebbles’ range, which was in production from the 1960s to the 1970s. The vase is rounded, tapering in towards the base and the rim; the latter is sloped, leading to an oval rim.
The whole of the outside is moulded to give the appearance of a mound of pebbles in assorted shapes and colours, the most prominent being blue-grey, black and brown. This colouration is hand-painted. The interior is glazed in a bright yellow shade that fades to off-white in the base.
The base has a raised rim, which is unglazed and shows the underlying ceramic body to be white in colour. Within this is the impressed number ‘3358’ and the words ‘SYLVAC MADE IN ENGLAND’.

The vase is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or pattern loss to the exterior of the vase. There is some crazing to the base on the exterior and interior, but it is still watertight and perfect for use or display. It has a maximum height of approximately 9 inches/ 23cm and a diameter at the widest part of about 6 inches/ 15 cm.

SylvaC was a trade name of Shaw and Copestake, a company formed at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries. In 1936 the business became a limited company. In 1955, after the constraints of the Second World War, the two existing pottery works in Stoke on Trent were combined on new premises, and this was the beginning of not only a vast change in production techniques, but also changes in the marketing of the SylvaC products. Initially the company was very successful, products having been sent worldwide with 30% of production going abroad. Unfortunately, during the 1970s, there was a steady decline in output, due to the recession and Far Eastern competition, and in May 1982 the company went into voluntary liquidation.
Ironically, since its closure, SylvaC pieces have become highly collectible and this continues to today.

These don’t come up too often in Ireland, so this is your chance to snap up this piece of 1960’s/1970’s retro Kitsch!!!

I also have a Cylindrical Brickwork Vase available in another ad, pattern number 3812, see the final photo. I'll do a deal if buying both!
