Fabulous Pair of Art Deco Green Glass Posy Vases by Bagley & Co, Green Glass Horseshoe Vase and Frosted Green Glass Semi Circular Ring Vase, both circa 1930s
I am continuing my effort to downsize, it seems to be never-ending! I purchased quite a number of green glass items for an event and I no longer need them or have room to store them, so I will have to let them go.
For sale here is a Fabulous Pair of Art Deco Green Glass Posy Vases by Bagley & Co, Green Glass Horseshoe Vase and Frosted Green Glass Semi Circular Ring Vase, both circa 1930’s
Bagley Glass was started in 1871 as a glass bottle factory in the town of Knottingley in West Yorkshire by cousins William Bagley and John W. Bagley. In 1912 they added the name “The Crystal Glass Company”, which reflected their transition to crystal and pressed glass.
The most prosperous time for Bagley Glass was the period between the World wars (1918-1939) when the firm became a leader in inexpensive domestic pressed glassware. This was achieved by offering a wide range of products, experimenting with coloured glass, expanding domestic and foreign markets, and a Royal seal of approval garnered by the sale of a particular style to the Queen. The company’s greatest achievements are considered to have been made from 1933 onwards, when Bagley introduced a series of superb art deco designs such as the Wyndham, Grantham, Rutland, Whitby, and York patterns in a range of clear and frosted pastel colours.
The factory was to run under Bagley Glass from 1871 to 1962, when ownership was taken over by Jackson Brothers Glass Company. Jackson Brothers continued producing the Crystal Glass Company lines until 1976. As with many glassmaking factories of the era, much of the Bagley Glass pieces have become very collectible.
This offering consists of two posy vases both made by Bagley & Co. and the price is for both together.
Buying them separately would increase the price.
The first posy vase is a green glass and is in the shape of a horseshoe. It stands 1.5 inches/ 4cm tall. It’s 6 inches/ 15 cm side to side and 6.5 inches/ 16.5 cm top to bottom.
The second posy vase is a frosted green vase in the shape of a rainbow, a half circle. It stands1.75 inches/ 4.5 cm tall. It’s 9 inches/ 23cm side to side and 4.5 inches/11 cm top to bottom.
Both posy vases are in excellent vintage (almost antique!) condition with no chips or cracks. The frosted vase has some markings on the bottom outside edge as photographed.
A fabulous Art Deco pair for the discerning homeowner. They would make a lovely display with spring blooms.
