Fabulous Mid-Large Brown Betty Teapot, by Alcock, Lindley and Bloore, With Mint Green Mottled Stripes, Holds One Litre/ 1.75 Pints
A possible impending house move has forced me into evaluating all the contents of my home and some items will have to go, in my effort to downsize. I'm making progress but more items need to go! I have so many teapots and I cannot keep them all. I have a large collection of Brown Betty Utility Teapots in various sizes, and I’m only keeping a few, so will be listing a number shortly
For sale here I have a Fabulous Mid-Large Brown Betty Teapot, by Alcock, Lindley and Bloore, With Mint Green Mottled Stripes, Holds One Litre/ 1.75 Pints
This is a Fabulous Large Brown Betty teapot by the original makers, ALB, in a plain brown glaze, the “Rockingham Brown Glaze”, with two wide graduated mint green mottled stripes on rim and the shoulder. It has the original lid which is tall with the steam-hole in the centre of the finial, which was an ALB innovation.
The teapot is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or other damage apart from a tiny indentation on the handle, from the time of manufacture, as photographed. It doesn’t affect the use, and is part of the vintage charm, but mentioned purely for accuracy.
It holds 1 litre or 1.75 pints of tea.
Alcock, Lindley and Bloore were a pottery firm made famous for their “Brown Betty” teapots, along with a couple of other pottery firms in England.
The Brown Betty teapots were less expensive at the time, than porcelain or china teapots, but they became very popular due to the fact that you can brew a superior pot of tea in them!! The red clay that was used to make them holds the heat longer and the shape of the pot allows the tea to swirl round for a better taste. They are also good pourers. The Brown Betty teapots are glazed in “Rockingham Brown Glaze”, which is another name for manganese brown glaze used.
Perfect for when brewing tea for the whole family!
Perfect for a country kitchen dresser display, or as part of a display in a tearooms or café.
A thoughtful gift for the collector of Brown Betty teapots, especially someone looking for examples by the original maker, ALB.
This is one of a collection of Brown Betty style pots that I have for sale, see the last photo for the full collection.
