Fabulous Large Dinner Plate from the Quality Pottery Firm Spode in the Very Popular and Collectable "Italian" Pattern, Priced Individually, Three Available
I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.
I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done!
I have quite the selection of individual decorative Blue and White plates and platters and serving items which I have collected and used over the years and kept with the idea of having a mad wall display, but never quite got round to it. Now, I’m not sure I have a suitable wall in my new home, when we move back in.
For sale here a Three Large 10.5 Inch Dinner Plate from the Quality Pottery Firm Copeland Spode in the Very Popular and Collectable “Italian” Pattern. This is Spode’s most famous and enduring pattern and was first produced in 1816 and continued in production until 2009.
Spode was founded by Josiah Spode in 1770, and he is credited with perfecting the technique of transfer printing in underglaze blue on fine earthenware. Josiah Spode is also often credited with developing in 1790, the fine bone china formula that was generally adopted by the industry.
The Italian Pattern is one of Spode’s most famous and enduring pattern, having been introduced in circa 1816 and in continuous production until the Spode factory closed in 2009. The design was immediately popular and remained a best seller over the years. It was produced on a large variety of pieces, with a catalogue from the 1920’s/30’s recording over 700 different shapes available.
The design features a central motif of an Italian inspired landscape with a river running through the centre and various buildings and ruins, some animals (sheep?) and a few figures. The edge of the plate has a beautiful decorative and ornate border of flowers and scrolls.
These dinner plates are in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or pattern loss, and have only ever been on display during my ownership. They are dishwasher and microwave safe, being the younger vintage, but I have never used them in either.
They measure 10.5 inches/26.5 cm in diameter.
These are quality items and Spode items command a premium price, so I am not entertaining any low ball offers on these plates which are priced at €45 each.
But I will consider offers, if buying all three together.
