Fabulous Belleek Blue Ribbon Pattern Biscuit Barrell with the Gold Backstamp, 7th Mark - 1980-1993
A possible impending house move has forced me into evaluating all the contents of my attic and some items will have to go, in my effort to downsize. I'm making progress but more items need to go!
I’ve quite a few eclectic pieces which will be going as they are not really part of my main collections but were just items that I was attracted to. They still bring me joy but something needs to go!!!
For sale here, is a Fabulous Belleek Blue Ribbon Pattern Biscuit Barrell with the Gold Backstamp – 1980-1993
It has a lovely basket-weave texture in the usual creamy Belleek Fine Parian China, with baby blue ribbon decoration to the body and the lid. The backstamp is the 7th mark, the first gold stamp. In April 1980 the seventh mark was introduced to commemorate the centenary of Gold medal won at the Melbourne Exhibition of 1880. This gold mark continued until 1984 when replaced by a darker brown toned gold to improve the clarity of the stamp. This stamp then continued until 1993.
Not having a comparison to hand, I cannot say whether it’s the early or later 7th stamp, but probably the later.
The Biscuit Barrell is in excellent vintage condition (mint, cabinet condition really) with no chips, cracks, crazing or any other damage. It stands just over 5 inches/13 cm tall and is approx. the same dimensions at its widest point.
Only for small special biscuits, it wouldn’t hold that many!!
It would work very well in a bathroom or bedroom setting also, where it would e the perfect receptacle for cotton wool balls.
The only other Belleek I currently have for sale is a stunning 21 piece Tea set in the Neptune Design.
