Fabulous Antique Early Imari Patterned Hand-Painted and Hand-Gilded Trio by George Warrilow & Sons, Queens China Circa 1900, Mint/Cabinet Condition
A possible impending house move has forced me (kicking and screaming!) into evaluating all my china collections and some items will have to go, in my effort to downsize.
A Fabulous Antique Early Imari Patterned Hand-Painted and Hand-Gilded Trio by George Warrilow & Sons, Queens China Circa 1900, Mint/Cabinet Condition
I need to downsize my collection of china as not all my items fit in my dresser and cabinets anymore! No point having these in storage when I move house, so will to let some items go to a new home! I have more than enough trios to keep for my china teacup candles, so can't keep it all!
George Warrilow and Sons were China manufacturers at the Park Place Works, Longton (1887-88) and then the Queens Pottery, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England from 1889 - 1940. They produced quality china, suitable for Home, Foreign and Colonial Markets, and specialised in Tea and Breakfast Sets, using a variety of New Shapes and Designs.
This Imari Pattern was introduced around 1900 and was one of their most popular designs. It is of a similar pattern and quality to Royal Crown Derby, with all of the decoration being hand painted, both the paint and Gilding. At a first glance, you might think the design was transfer printed, but if you look closely, you will notice that there are subtle variations in the design, from the fact that every bit is hand painted.
For sale here, is one Trio, consisting of a cup, saucer and side plate.
Price is for one trio, but I do have a number of matching trios available. These trios are highly sought after, expect to spend upwards of €75 online, plus post, packaging and customs, see the last photo, so this one is great value!
This set is just stunning in shape, design and colour, and screams Imari glamour. The white fine bone china with an Imari style border pattern is hand painted in deep cobalt blue with touches of red and heavy shiny gilding. The thick, plentiful gilding is just fab but very difficult to photograph.
The teacup has a delicate fluted and scalloped shape, with matching scalloped rims to the saucer and plate.
Each piece has the manufacturers back stamp, in blue, which dates to between 1892-1928, but due to the style of the pattern and cup shapes, plus online research, this set dates to the first half of this period, circa 1900.
All three pieces are in excellent mint antique condition with no chips, cracks or crazing, no pattern loss and very little gilt loss, especially given these are over 100 years old. Due to the sets age and manufacturing processes at the time, there may be the odd blemish in the white china, or colour speck from the hand painting.
Perfect for the collector of Fine Bone China, especially someone who specialises in Imari Pattern, or someone who likes to collect individual trios due to space issues!
Would be lovely for use for a special afternoon tea or coffee morning, with a mix and match Imari theme. Would also be fabulous on display in a china cabinet, among other fine china trios.
