Fabulous Antique Blue and White Sauce Boat by Alfred Meakin in the Rare Leighton Pattern, Circa 1907-1913

For sale here is a lovely shallow, round sauce boat by Alfred Meakin in the beautiful and rare “Leighton” Pattern.
The pattern features a wide bright blue band at the rim with white and dark blue florals and rococo scrolls, and the pattern is edged in two hand-painted rings of gilt with a blue and white diamond pattern in between.
I can only find a few items online in this lovely but rare pattern. The backstamp date this piece to the narrow time band between 1907 and 1913.

Alfred Meakin was an Earthenware manufacturer at various works in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England, starting in 1875 and the company continued in various forms until takeover and amalgamation in 1976.
Alfred Meakin set up in business in 1875 at the Royal Albert Pottery, Tunstall. 1913 the name was changed to Alfred Meakin (Tunstall) Ltd. In 1914 the directors were listed as A. S. Johnson, H. Johnson, F. C. Johnson. Alfred Meakin remained open during the Second World War under the Wartime Concentration Scheme - they were permitted to produce undecorated domestic ware. They also produced canteen ware for the British armed forces. By 1949 the business had over 1,200 employees and both bottle and tunnel ovens were in use. 1969 - Interpace Corporation (New Jersey, US) purchased both Alfred Meakin (Tunstall) Ltd. and Myott & Sons Ltd. who operated as separate companies until the formation of Myott-Meakin Ltd in 1976.

This lovely sauce or gravy boat stands about 3 inches/7.5 cm tall, and measures 6.25 inches/16 cm in diameter from spout to handle.

The sauce boat is in excellent Antique condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing, amazing considering it’s over 100 years old. Perfect for display as part of a Blue and White feature kitchen dresser, it’s also suitable for special occasional use.
