Delightful Lidded Preserve/Marmalade Pot in the Shape of a Juicy Lemon Fruit with a Leafy and Floral decoration and Finial, by Keele Street Pottery Company, Circa 1950, Funky MCM Chic

I’ve quite a few eclectic pieces which will be going as they are not really part of my main collections but were just items that I was attracted to. They still bring me joy, but something needs to go!!!

For sale here, is a Delightful Lidded Preserve/Marmalade Pot in the Shape of a Juicy Lemon Fruit with a Leafy and Floral decoration and Finial, by Keele Street Pottery Company, Circa 1950, Funky MCM Chic

The Keele Street Pottery company was founded in 1915 by Charles H. Bowers, Elijah Brookes, J. A Robinson and H. W. Pitt. It closed in 1941 under the wartime Concentration scheme, and the buildings were used by government to store shell cases.
Bower’s son, Charles Griffiths Bowers, re-activated the business in 1946, and in 1947 the product ranges were extended to include ornamental ware, cottage ware and other fancies such as this fab item. In 1958 the company became a subsidiary of Staffordshire Potteries.
They are most well-known for the kitsch cottage ware, which is not to everyone’s taste, but this item would also appeal to lovers of retro and Mid Century Kitsch.

Dating to the 1950s is this hand-painted jam/preserves/marmalade pot by KSP. It is in the shape of a large what I presume is a lemon with a dimpled texture in a lemon coloured glaze, and with a Leafy and Floral decoration that forms the handle for the lid which has an opening for a spoon.

Impressed mark to the base which says KSP, England. The impressed backstamp was hard to photograph.
SIZE: just over 3 inches/8 cm in diameter at the widest point and standing 4.25 inches/ 10.5 cm to the top of the finial.

Condition wise, it is in excellent vintage condition ( 70+ years old) with no chips or cracks or any paintwork loss. The colours are bright and glossy. It is rare to find in this condition, especially with the finial intact!! There is one minor manufacturing flaw, (a little extra bit of clay) as photographed.

A stunning addition to an afternoon tea table display, where it can hold preserves for scones.
A must for a collector of Mid Century Kitsch ceramics, also a perfect addition to a KSP collection.
Perfect also for serving marmalade during a special weekend brunch.
