Beautiful 1950s Almost Complete Dinner Service by Arklow Pottery in Pattern Number 2508
What a find this set is!!! And almost complete, the only item missing is one Dinner Plate.
The pattern is 2508, and features motifs of bright pink flowers with green, fawn and yellow foliage. I’m unsure of the type of flowers, Petunias possibly, perhaps someone with more horticultural experience than me can identify them!!! It is not a pattern that I have seen before, and on-line searches have not shown any other examples. I do know that this pattern also came in a blue flower version.
The Dinner Service consists of the following items:
Five Dinner Plates (10 inches)
Six Breakfast/Small Dinner Plates (9 inches)
Six Salad/Side Plates (8 inches)
Six Large Soup Bowls (9 inches)
One 12 inch Platter
One 14 inch Platter
One 16 inch Platter
One Gravy Boat
Two Lidded Soup/Vegetable Tureens.
Overall, the condition of the set is good, considering the considerable age. There are no chips or cracks on any of the pieces and no pattern loss or fading. Some items have some gilt loss at the edges, but most are almost perfect. The platters show the most age, with some crazing and slight discolouration, and the most gilt loss. One tureen has a small area of discolouration, but this is only visible from the back. A couple of pieces have slight manufacturing defects in the transferware decals. Please see the last few photos for these issues.
I have had this set for a while, and I love it, but my Arklow collection is too broad, and I am concentrating on other patterns, so this will have to go. But I will not be accepting any low ball offers, as it didn’t come cheap to me!!
It’s so rare to have almost the complete set, as normally pieces get broken over time! This is a wonderful chance to buy a large piece of Irish pottery history.
