Antique Victorian R C and Co Syria Brown Transferware Large Serving Platter
A truly beautiful large antique Victorian serving platter by Robert Cochran and Co of Verreville Pottery Glasgow, in the highly decorative Syria pattern.
Dating to the mid 19th century (C.1850-1870), this is a genuine antique piece with wonderful character and presence. The detailed brown transfer decoration features an elaborate romantic landscape with striking architecture, mountains, figures and waterside scenes, surrounded by richly patterned floral and architectural border panels.
The warm cream and chocolate-brown tones give it a wonderfully atmospheric country house look. It would be stunning displayed on a dresser, sideboard, large kitchen shelf or mounted carefully as a statement wall piece. It would work particularly well in a traditional, Georgian, Victorian, farmhouse or maximalist interior.
The reverse bears the original printed Syria R C and Co V P maker’s mark.
Measurements:
Approximately 45 cm wide
Approximately 37 cm deep
Approximately 5 cm high
Condition
This is a genuine antique platter showing extensive age-related crazing, patination and general surface wear consistent with its considerable age.
Please note that there is a hairline crack running inwards from the rim, clearly shown in the photographs. The platter remains complete and displays beautifully, but it should be handled carefully and is being sold as a decorative antique display piece rather than for serving food.
Because of its large size, weight, age and existing crack, this piece is offered on a collection-only basis from a central Dublin location. This avoids any risk of damage during postage.
A very special and highly decorative piece of antique Scottish transferware with fabulous country house appeal.
