Antique Majolica Green Grape Plate

Antique Majolica Green Grape Plate Antique Majolica Green Grape Plate Ceramics

Antique Majolica Piece

Circa 1890-1910.

Likely to be French Majolica, the intertwined handle is a unique feature which according to experts puts it in this time period. IZts not typical of Wedgewood so most likely French.

The plate has what collectors call good mold definition and the grape veins are sharp, the stems are rounded rather than flat, the glaze pools darker in recesses. This is indicative of antique majolica, there wouldn't be such detail on modern pieces

Notice on the photos that looking down on the plate or if it was hanging it looks perfect but there are a couple of small chips at the back. At the edge at one end there is a small line of scuffing to the glaze. This does not spoil the beauty of the piece but will be reflected in the price offered.

I have seen a small number for sale on ebay starting at Eur95 and up to nearly 200, with some chips/knicks in glaze.
