Antique Ford & Sons Dudley Staffordshire Dinner Service c.1900

Beautiful antique 17-piece Ford & Sons “Dudley” dinner service, made in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, circa 1893 -1908.

A wonderful surviving collection of late Victorian / early Edwardian English Staffordshire tableware, decorated in an elegant deep blue and white pattern with delicate gilt detailing.

The service has a particularly striking presence when displayed together, with beautifully shaped borders, graduated serving platters and two impressive pedestal tureens with pierced handles.

The original printed “F & Sons / Dudley / Burslem” backstamp identifies the maker and pattern and dates the pieces to the period before Ford & Sons became a limited company in 1908.

The set includes 17 pieces:
10 large deep dinner / soup plates Ø 27 cm
5 graduated oval serving platters:
32 × 23 cm
35 × 25 cm
37 × 28.5 cm
43 × 32 cm
47 × 35 cm
2 pedestal serving tureens with elegant pierced handles and gilt detailing - covers no longer present

The magnificent 47 × 35 cm serving platter is the largest piece in the collection and is in particularly lovely condition.

Condition

Genuine antique condition, consistent with approximately 120+ years of age.

The service displays beautifully overall, with strong blue decoration and surviving original gilt detail.

There is age-related crazing and some wear to the gilding. One serving platter has a rim chip and another shows heavier crazing / age-related damage. The two tureens no longer have their original covers.

These imperfections have been taken into account in the asking price and, in my opinion, do not detract from the wonderful decorative character of the collection.
