This is the third episode in the four-part first series of the Dalek Empire, first released by Big Finish in 2001. The whole series was written by Nicholas Briggs, who also voices the Daleks, and it’s clear from the start that the whole concept of the Daleks, and their place in the universe of Doctor Who has been very carefully thought through and portrayed in these stories. The lead-up to this series has been signposted in the earlier stories released by Big Finish (but which you are not compelled to have heard to understand and appreciate this series to the fullest): the monthly range stories The Genocide Machine, The Apocalypse Element, The Mutant Phase; and the Eighth Doctor story, The Time of the Daleks.
