It’s a *VTEC-E* engine, so it’s tuned for fuel economy first. At low RPM it runs on 12 valves for lean burn, then switches to 16 valves and VTEC profile around 3000-3800 rpm depending on load. That’s why you get decent power but still 6.5-7 L/100km on the highway.
