Irish Blackwood Flute by Des Seery
A beautiful blackwood flute by Des Seery. One of Irelands most fought after Flute makers before his passing. . The flute is both beautiful in tone and appearance. Des was a perfectionist in his work, and I believe his wooden flutes has a very distinctive Dublin voice. Des lived in Bray, Co. Wicklow where I visited his home and workshop in 1986, around the same time this flute was made. Des was totally dedicated to his flute making , I had an interesting Saturday morning with him. He was happy to show me his methods and his theory and share his plans. He showed me a black material called delrin which was a durable plastic he intended using for flute making in the future. Seery flutes were in demand, he had no stock , just his own flute and a flute he was delivering that morning. This wooden flute is an excellent and typical example of his craftsmanship. The case is mahogany and also made by Des. I have recorded a short sound sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeFdXDj1uYo
