Excellent condition Antique Scottish Amber Glass Demijohn 1920s ( One Imperial Gallon) by the UGB United Glass Bottle Manufacturers.

Description.

A beautiful, substantial vintage amber-glass demijohn made in Scotland by United Glass Bottle Manufacturer. 1920s.

Its rich brown glass, rounded shoulders and distinctive twin-loop neck handles make it a striking display piece.

Its made in Alloa in Scotland and Alloa has a remarkable glassmaking history.

Glass production began there around 1750, when Lady Frances Erskine established a bottle works near the River Forth.

The bottle holds one imperial gallon (approximately 4.55 litres).

It measures approximately 31 cm tall, weighs 2,047 g empty, and is about 27 cm at its widest point.

The neck opening is approximately 4 cm wide.

The base is embossed “AL 29,” “L 8” and “UGB.” A hand-etched mark on the body appears to read 7 shillings and 1 farthing.

In lovely mint condition, a lovely piece for a vintage glass collection, home bar, or traditional interior.
