Jim Cummins was born in 1944. He grew up in a small rural community in Co. Kildare. He left school at 13 and went to work as a farm labourer. At the age of 17 he became a truck driver.

Jim emigrated to Australia where he worked as a miner & explosives expert.

On returning to Ireland he worked as a truck driver in an oil company. He soon progressed to senior management. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own business as co-founder of Primo Oil. The company went on to become a major oil and petrol distributor and retailer, employing 125 people.

Jim enjoys adventure; he loves water sports and crewed in a Trans Atlantic yacht race. He then became involved in fundraising Barretstown and the 'Make A Wish Foundation'.

Jim's charity work has included treks in Brazil, Vietnam, Lesotho, and the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu in Peru. Jim and his wife Pat also went on charity building projects in Africa, building schools and an orphanage. In 2011, Jim undertook his greatest adventure to date when he and Pat climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania the world's highest freestanding mountain, over 19,000 feet

This is the story of Jim's life to date a journey that has taken him from Kildare to Kilimanjaro, and back again.
