JAYO - Jason Sherlock - New book
New First Edition Autobiography.
J ASON SHERLOCK's story is like no other. A Dublin football legend, he burst on the scene in the mid-1990s to become the most marketable player in Gaelic Games. With Asian looks and a soccer and basketball background, Sherlock was immediately expected to conform to GAA ways. But he stayed true to himself and stuck to his own road, helping Dublin to the 1995 All-Ireland title in his own inimitable way. Almost overnight, he became the darling of Hill 16, a household name, as a litany of opportunities and offers poured in.
But beyond the hype, Sherlock's journey was also potholed with racist insults, begrudgery, a lack of sense of self-worth, controversy and failure. Sherlock became obsessive in the chase for a second All-Ireland medal that never came. His story is just as intriguing for his battles outside of sport as it for his exploits on the field. This book is a rich and engaging memoir of one of Ireland's best-known sportsmen.
JASON played for his county between 1994 and 2010 and burst to prominence in 1995, winning an All-Ireland senior medal. An accomplished sportsman, Jason represented the Republic of Ireland U21 soccer team and played for UCD and Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland. He also excelled in basketball and captained various underage Irish teams. While spending his childhood summers in Cork, he won nine hurling championships with Ballyhea. Back home in Dublin, he won three county senior football titles with Na Fianna.
Away from sport, Jason has also achieved much, presenting a TV show for RTE. In latter years, Sherlock gained an MBA from Dublin City University and now works as a Personal Development Executive. He is the current Offence Coach for the Dublin senior football team, joining the set-up in 2015. Married to Louise, they have two children, Josh and Caoimhe, and live in Castleknock.
