Iris Origo 'Images and Shadows' Iris Origo 'Images and Shadows' Biographies

Vintage 'Images and Shadows', John Murray, 1970. Iris Origo’s beautifully written autobiographical account of her early life. Origo’s father came from an old and moneyed American family, her mother was the daughter of an Irish peer (Kilkenny), and Iris grew up in the most privileged of circumstances. Her father died of tuberculosis at 30 when Iris was seven, and her mother moved to Fiesole near Florence, Italy, where she and Iris developed a close friendship with the great connoisseur and art historian Bernard Berenson. Later, Origo and her Italian husband transformed a desolate and deforested Tuscan property into a flourishing estate. After the passing of her husband, Origo discovered her true calling as a writer. Hardback with dust cover. Some foxing on edges. 278 clean pages plus 14 pages of B&W photographs. See photos. €6.
