WEST of WEST
A unique autobiographical account, written with great integrity, of the artist's relationship with the landscape, buildings and people of West Cork.
And an outstanding representation of that world in more than ninety etchings.
The author moves easily from consideration of medieval Kinsale to the nineteenth-century character of Skibbereen and Ballydehob, and from the old Gaelic order represented by the Castle of Kilcoe to the patrician society of Castletownshend. A book full of intimate insights into many aspects of life in rural Ireland, this is in particular a celebration of West Cork.
Brian Lalor studied at the Crawford Municipal School of Art in Cork, later in England and Greece. He worked in architecture and archaeology before moving to West Cork in 1971,
where he lived for fourteen years, concentrating on his art. His work has been exhibited in Ireland. the USA. Spain. Switzerland and other countries. and his previous books include studies of Jerusalem. Cork, Dublin, and Kilkenny.
