Rare 21inch Sun Microsystems GDM-5510 FD Trinitron CRT Monitor (Sony CPD-G520 Variant) 5800 Hours Rare 21inch Sun Microsystems GDM-5510 FD Trinitron CRT Monitor (Sony CPD-G520 Variant) 5800 Hours Arcade & Retro

For sale is an incredibly rare, professional-grade 21" Sun Microsystems GDM-5510 Flat Display Premium Color CRT Monitor.

For those in the retro gaming, CRT enthusiast, or vintage computing community, you know exactly what this is.

This model uses a binned, ultra-premium Sony FD Trinitron aperture grille tube—sharing its core architecture and chassis with the iconic Sony CPD-G520. Performance-wise, it is essentially one step down from the legendary widescreen GDM-FW900, offering stunning pixel density, motion clarity, and color depth that modern panels struggle to match.

Condition & Usage:

Low Hours: The monitor has approximately 5,815 hours on the tube. Considering these high-end professional tubes have an MTBF of 110,000 hours, this has plenty of life left.

Cosmetic/Structural Defect (Priced Accordingly): The plastic stand at the bottom/back cracked/broke off while moving but has been reattached. It has been repaired with high-strength epoxy resin. (pic included) It holds fine, but because of this, the price is heavily discounted compared to global market rates. I am including a tub of spare epoxy just in case you want to reinforce it further after transit. Some stickers and scuffs/scrapes/marks on the chassis from age (been there since I had it see pics)

Screen & Picture Quality: The glass is clean, and the monitor works perfectly. Please note: The photos show typical CRT scan lines/flicker and look somewhat dimmed—this is entirely down to my phone camera's shutter speed mismatching the refresh rate. In reality, the screen is beautifully bright, sharp, and vivid.

Terms of Sale:
Collection Only: This unit weighs 31.5 kg (nearly 70 lbs). It is strictly collection only; shipping is not an option.

Test before buying: Because this is a high-value vintage electronics item, all sales are final. However, buyers are more than welcome—and encouraged—to bring a test rig or use mine to test it as extensively as they like before taking it home. I have a mister available with a VGA connection which I used to test before putting this up.

Pricing Reference & Context:
These monitors are virtually impossible to find in Ireland nowadays, avoiding the massive risk and cost of importing a fragile 32kg package from mainland Europe or the US. For price context on what working 21" Trinitron equivalents and high-end Sun GDM models go for globally (often ranging anywhere from €700 to well over €1,200 depending on condition), here's an example of a recent sale of an equivalent monitor on ebay. https://ebay.io/m/blrESy

Serious offers only, please. No lowballers or time-wasters looking for a cheap display—this is a specialized enthusiast item. Thanks for looking!
