Martin D28 from 1966. Brazilian Rosewood Beauty
This 1966 Martin D-28 is a phenomenal example of the "Golden Era" of post-war Martins. Crafted during the final years of standard Brazilian Rosewood production, this guitar offers the depth, clarity, and visual beauty that have made the D-28 the most recorded and sought-after dreadnought in history.
Tone & Playability
The tone of this instrument is exactly what you want from a mid-60s Brazilian Martin: lush, open, and dry. It possesses a complex harmonic content with a deep, authoritative bass that remains clear and never muddy. The trebles are shimmering and crisp, providing that "piano-like" response that defines the best D-28s.
Thanks to a recent professional neck reset, the action is perfect, and the guitar plays effortlessly up and down the fretboard. Whether you are a heavy-handed flatpicker or a nuanced fingerstyle player, this guitar responds with incredible headroom and sensitivity. There is some wear in the cowboy chord area, but the guitar plays great with no buzzing or fretting out.
Condition & Maintenance
This D-28 is in good shape overall with honest light wear from decades of music-making. To ensure it remains a world-class player for the next half-century, some essential maintenance and vintage-correct updates have been performed:
Bridge: The bridge has been replaced with a high-quality non-original bridge. There is some light shadowing on the upper edge of the bridge footprint from the previous installation.
Bridge Plate: The bridge plate has also been replaced to ensure maximum structural integrity and tonal transfer.
Pickguard: A common "pickguard crack" has been professionally repaired and stabilized, a standard fix for Martins of this era.
Overall Finish: The guitar shows light wear and character dings throughout, consistent with its age, but retains a beautiful, healthy glow.
