If you’ve ever wondered why some cellos seem to respond faster under the bow — more speed, more immediacy, less lag between attack and sound — the endpin is often the overlooked culprit. A standard steel rod flexes slightly under pressure, quietly absorbing energy that should be going into your tone.
The Krentz endpin solves that with silicon nitride — a ceramic as hard as sapphire, several times stiffer than steel, yet a third of the weight. Rather than adding mass to boost projection (the old-school fix), Krentz went the opposite direction: maximum stiffness, minimum density. The result is a rod that doesn’t steal energy from the string’s vibration, so more of what your bow does reaches the room.

This is the 12mm silicon nitride rod with socket — the rod itself is in excellent, unmarked condition (it’s near-indestructible in normal use). Note: the Delrin cone was trimmed to fit my own cello’s endpin hole, so it may need a replacement cone or a shim for a perfect fit on yours — these are cheap and simple to source/swap, not a structural issue. Retails new around $560. Selling as I’ve moved away from acoustic cello.
